Cannington Detectives have charged two people after an evade police incident yesterday morning, Tuesday 14 January 2020, which involved a vehicle that had been stolen from a residence in Sawyers Valley earlier in the morning.
Sometime between 1:30am and 4:00am yesterday a silver Toyota Tarago was stolen from a residence in Sawyers Valley during a burglary.
Around 11.50am Police observed the stolen vehicle in the Maddington area. Officers attempted to stop the vehicle on Westfield Street, Maddington, however the driver failed to stop and the vehicle accelerated away onto Revesby Street. The vehicle continued onto Alcock Street and then Maddington Road. The driver lost control of the vehicle on Maddington Road, causing the vehicle to crash into a power pole, before coming to rest as it collided with a fence.
The female driver attempted to climb out of the driver's door window, and was arrested without further incident. A male passenger was trapped inside the damaged vehicle.
The vehicle caught fire and officers used a fire extinguisher from a police vehicle to extinguish the fire and keep the passenger safe. They also provided emergency first aid to the passenger and kept the public away from the live power lines.
The Department of Fire and Emergency Services attended and freed the passenger from the vehicle.
St John Ambulance and Western Power also attended the scene.
Both occupants of the vehicle were taken by ambulance to Royal Perth Hospital.
