Mandurah Detectives have charged a man in relation to two incidents in the Mandurah District on Thursday 26 November 2020 in which a driver failed to stop for Police.
About 8:55pm a stolen silver Audi A7 was observed being driven on Old Coast Road, Halls Head. An attempted to stop the vehicle was made, however it will be alleged the driver failed to stop and accelerated away. The attempt to stop the vehicle was aborted for safety reasons.
About 9:50pm the same stolen vehicle was observed being driven north on Lakes Road, Parklands. An attempt to stop the vehicle was made, however it will be alleged the driver failed to stop and accelerated away.
The vehicle was monitored by a Police Air Wing crew on board a police helicopter which had been called into the area. The vehicle was tracked through several streets.
The vehicle later crashed into a fence on Banksiadale Gate, Lakelands. The driver fled on foot towards the shopping centre, however he was tracked by the Police Air Wing crew and was arrested shortly after by officers from the Regional Operations Group.
The passenger was also arrested nearby after he was located hiding by the Police Air Wing crew.
The driver, a 27-year-old man from Mandurah, has been charged with:
- Steal Motor Vehicle
- Aggravated Burglary and Commit
- 2 x Stealing
- 2 x Fail to Stop
- 2 x Reckless Driving (to escape police)
- 2 x No Authority to Drive
- Breach of Bail
He was refused bail and appeared in the Perth Magistrates Court yesterday, Friday 27 November 2020, and is next due to appear in the same court on Friday 18 December 2020.
