Ex-Mexico President Zedillo to Keynote IBA Conference

On Sunday 15 September 2024 in Mexico City, the keynote address at the Opening Ceremony of the International Bar Association (IBA) 2024 Annual Conference will be delivered by Mexico's 61st president, Ernesto Zedillo Ponce de León. His tenure was from 1994-2000.

Ahead of the event, Mr Zedillo recorded an address in which he talked about the importance of the rule of law, particularly in respect of a country's economic development. The short video can be viewed here. The transcript can be downloaded from here.

Mr Zedillo is a member of The Elders, an independent group of global leaders using their collective experience and influence for peace, justice and human rights worldwide. In 2020, Mr Zedillo was asked to serve on the Independent Panel for Pandemic Preparedness and Response (IPPPR), mandated by the World Health Assembly to analyse the COVID-19 pandemic's early emergence, global spread, health, economic and social impacts, and how it was controlled and mitigated.

Mr Zedillo is a Senior Fellow at the Yale Jackson School of Global Affairs and Frederick Iseman '74 Director of the Program for the Study of Globalization; Professor in the Fields of Economics and Political Science; and Professor Adjunct of Environmental Studies at Yale University.

This year the IBA's flagship annual event, deemed the premier event of the international legal profession, will take place from 15-20 September at the Centro Citibanamex, Mexico City, Mexico. It will bring together thousands of law professionals, business leaders, government representatives and regulators from more than 100 jurisdictions.

The conference will be conducted in the ENGLISH language.
