Nurses and midwives from across Tasmania have been recognised for excellence in an awards ceremony in Hobart on Friday night.

The Tasmanian Public Sector Nursing and Midwifery Excellence Awards is an annual event to celebrate and acknowledge the skill, dedication and unwavering commitment of our nursing and midwifery workforce in Tasmania.

Minister for Health, Jacquie Petrusma, congratulated the six winners for their outstanding achievements.

"Our nurses and midwives do an extraordinary job taking care of Tasmanians each and every day, and these awards ensure well-deserved recognition of their exceptional work and excellence," Minister Petrusma said.

"I gratefully thank our nurses and midwives for their dedication and commitment to their patients and their communities, which makes a real difference in people's lives across Tasmania.

"It was an honour to attend the awards ceremony on Friday night and to meet many of the fantastic award nominees and recipients. It was inspirational to hear of their accomplishments, innovations and professional leadership.

"A warm congratulations to all the award nominees, finalists and recipients. The care you provide to Tasmanians and the outstanding contributions you make to Tasmania's health system is greatly valued and applauded.

"Under our 2030 Strong Plan for Tasmania's Future, we've already recruited more than 1,200 new healthcare workers since April, and we're committed to attracting and retaining more nurses and more midwives across Tasmania's health system."
