The Allan Labor Government is revving up for Victoria's largest regional major event as Phillip Island prepares to welcome thousands of motorsport fans to the Australian Motorcycle Grand Prix this weekend.
Minister for Tourism, Sport and Major Events Steve Dimopoulos today joined Australian Grand Prix Corporation CEO Travis Auld and five-time world MotoGP champion Mick Doohan to encourage fans to get their tickets before they are gone to regional Australia's biggest international sporting event - which will attract thousands of fans.
Held at the iconic Phillip Island Grand Prix Circuit from 18 to 20 October, the 2024 Motorcycle Grand Prix will feature some of the world's best riders - including championship leader Jorge Martin, eight-time MotoGP champion Marc Marquez and Australia's own Jack Miller who will all be vying for top spot on the podium.
The Grand Prix which has been hosted by Phillip Island since 1997 features three action packed days on the track and a bustling program of off-track entertainment - drawing tens of thousands of visitors to the Bass Coast, packing out local hotels, restaurants and bars, and delivering a huge boost to the local economy.
Regional major events - including the Rip Curl Bells Beach Pro and White Night Ballarat - have helped ensure regional Victoria benefits from our packed calendar of iconic events.
In addition to the Australian Motorcycle Grand Prix, the tail end of 2024 will bring major events to Bendigo when the Australian Diamonds take on the English Roses in the final match of a best-of-three netball Test series, and music venues across the state will play a huge role in staging this year's ALWAYS LIVE.
