Exeter Pubs to Host Pint of Science 2025

University of Exeter

Some of Exeter's best-loved pubs will be hosting this year's Pint of Science, offering up fascinating talks on everything from robots helping to fight cancer to the surprising ways insects can regenerate.

Running from 19-21 May, this year's festival marks the 12th edition of the annual event, which brings researchers out of the lab and into local bars in 42 cities across the UK.

In Exeter, venues including the Bootlegger, City Gate, and White Hart Hotel will transform into hubs of scientific discussion with informative talks, demonstrations, live experiments, and a multi-city pub quiz competition.

Researchers from the University of Exeter and the MET office will present at this year's festival on topics ranging from: the potential of genetic sequencing babies, how genetics can be used to improve equality in diagnosing diabetes, eating disorders, the mysterious capabilities of insects to regenerate and how robots could be used to help in the detection of bowel cancer.

On top of the talks, there's also the chance to take part in the UK's biggest pub quiz. The interactive quiz will run at the same time in cities across the country, giving Exeter locals the chance to go head-to-head with teams nationwide in a battle of brains.

Dr Harry Green, Exeter Coordinator of Pint of Science, said: "Exeter's scientists are always pushing boundaries for the good of all of us, whether that's for greener energy, healthier oceans, or new medical breakthroughs. It's fantastic to see this research in the public spotlight at Pint of Science, so everyone shares in those discoveries and see how they can improve lives far beyond our city."

"None of this could happen without our brilliant volunteer team: researchers, students and science fans who have spent months turning cutting–edge ideas into conversations you can share on the walk home. Pint of Science has sold out the last 2 years, so book early to secure a ticket!"
