The Western Downs community has celebrated a major milestone in regional education last week with the official opening of the Country Universities Centre (CUC) in Chinchilla.
The new learning hub will provide local students with access to high-quality facilities, technology, and academic support, making higher education more accessible than ever.
The launch event was attended by Senator Anthony Chisholm, Member for Maranoa David Littleproud MP, CUC CEO Chris Ronan, and Western Downs Regional Council Mayor Andrew Smith.
Western Downs Regional Council Mayor Andrew Smith said the ceremonial ribbon cutting was a powerful symbol of new beginnings and more opportunities for students in the Western Downs.
"As the ribbon was cut, it signified making higher education more accessible and opening doors for local students to pursue university without leaving home," Mayor Smith said.
"With this new study hub, students will have the support, resources and space they need to succeed, ensuring that we can attract and retain highly educated and skilled workers in the Western Downs.
"This investment in higher education will help strengthen our workforce and give locals a reason to study and build their careers right here in the Western Downs.
"We know that distance and isolation can be a significant barrier for our community seeking a pathway to higher education.
"CUC Western Downs is about removing those barriers and ensuring our community have the same opportunities as those in metropolitan areas.
"With high-speed internet, academic assistance and a strong local support network, this centre will support our community on their university journey."
Students and community members are encouraged to visit the centre, explore its facilities and learn how CUC Western Downs can fill industry gaps to further develop our workforce.
