The Sydney Business Chamber says today's expansion of the Dine and Discover program's successful Rocks trial to take in the CBD and Northern Beaches, will give struggling hospitality, cultural and tourism businesses a timely boost by generating much-needed patronage.
"These two parts of Sydney were probably the hardest hit by the Covid lockdowns and the extension of the voucher program, targeting over 120,00 people has already attracted 700 businesses to register, all ready to receive new and existing customers," said Katherine O'Regan, Executive Director, Sydney Business Chamber.
"The Sydney CBD represents more than seven per cent of the total national economy, over thirty percent of the Greater Sydney economy and nearly a quarter of NSW GDP, so this second phase is vital in assisting our economic engine room to hum again – both day and night."
"With more venues open later in the CBD, using the vouchers to take in a show or movie and enjoy a meal after is a great way to experience our city after dark, and contribute to the building of the 24-hour economy."
"Sydney's famous Chinatown district is still suffering badly through the loss of international students and tourists, so it's hoped the boost to businesses from this well-targeted voucher program will also reinvigorate this culinary and culturally wonderful part of the CBD."
"The technology has proven itself in The Rocks for both business and customers, while those not as tech-savvy can visit a Service NSW office from Wednesday and receive a paper form or organise an email, so that everyone invited can participate."
