Expert Council On University Governance

Universities Australia has been appointed to the Government's Expert Council on University Governance.

"We are supportive of every effort to ensure our campuses are safe and welcoming places to work and study - that's what people deserve," Universities Australia Chief Executive Officer Luke Sheehy said.

"Good governance is crucial for good universities, and every opportunity to embrace best practice in the oversight of such complex organisations is to be welcomed.

"Governance is a key area of focus in the Accord, as it should be, and we will continue to engage constructively with governments and industry stakeholders to get the best outcomes.

"I congratulate Ms Melinda Cilento on her appointment as Chair and look forward to working closely with all Council members to provide expert and technical governance advice to Education Ministers.

"Universities Australia is already working closely with various industry stakeholders on ways to improve governance and performance and I look forward to building on this important work."
