Hurstville Museum & Gallery is proud to announce Winged Creatures, a captivating exhibition featuring the work of local photographer Rachel Fitzhardinge.
On display in the Dragon's Lair Gallery from Saturday 22 March to Sunday 11 May 2025, the exhibition will showcase the wonderful native fauna living within the Georges River region through her high-quality, detailed and vivid images.
As a self-taught photographer with a Bachelor's degree and post-graduate qualification in Science, Rachel draws on her passion for flora and fauna conservation to capture the unique local insect and bird species that live amongst us.
Her involvement in the Commonwealth Scientific and Industrial Research Organisation (CSIRO), National Parks Association of NSW (NPA), the Oatley Flora and Fauna Conservation Society and the Royal Society of NSW highlights her commitment to protecting our habitat.
"I am fascinated by natural ecosystems and the plants and animals in them. Photography allows me to capture both the beauty and the interesting behaviours of animals," she said.
"I often have the camera set up so that I can take multiple photos in quick succession and at high shutter speeds. This enables me to "freeze" the water when birds are bathing or catch a sequence of photos as birds land or take off."
Georges River Council Mayor Elise Borg expressed her enthusiasm for the exhibition: "What a joy it is to showcase the beautiful and important native fauna living within our area," she said.
