Wollongong City Libraries are excited to take a walk down music lane this Friday 4 June with Australian music photographer Wendy McDougall and her new book 'It's only rock'n'roll but I like it'.
Wendy will be presenting an Author Q&A at Wollongong Library to chat about the book and her award-winning collection of rock industry photographs that stretches over a 40-year period.
From 1979 to 2019 Wendy has photographed local legends such as INXS, Crowded House, Cold Chisel, Richard Clapton and Paul Kelly.
"Our libraries do a wonderful job to provide a space for creatives, such as photographers, artists and authors, to showcase their work and connect with our community." Wollongong City Lord Mayor Councillor Gordon Bradbery said.
"We're committed to providing programs and events for our residents to explore their love for books, music, art and everything in between – and the Author Q&A is a great example of this.
"It's an opportunity to engage with the creators, dive into their world, ask any burning questions plus a chance to get a book signed too.
"It's exciting to have Wendy share her experiences as a music photographer following her recent exhibitions in Sydney and Melbourne. Images in her book highlight her creativity, humour and intimacy with musicians on and off stage."
Wendy's career has led her to photograph visiting international stars like Tom Jones, Bono and Mick Jagger and her documentary images are held in collections at the National Library of Australia, NSW State Library, Museum of Sydney and Powerhouse Museum.
"A selection of Wendy's photographs is also currently on display in The Lab. It's free and will only be here for a limited time. So, I encourage you to not only come along to the Q&A but also have a look at the images that help shape the Australian music industry," Cr Bradbery said.
The temporary exhibition is on display on Level 1, The Lab, 41 Burelli Street Wollongong from 25th May to 24th June.
