Explore Tapestry Of Culture In Wyndham

Wyndham City is excited to announce a fashion-related art program dedicated to celebrating the rich diversity of cultures within our City.

A series of free workshops celebrating cultural diversity through the universal language of fashion will be run each month and will explore the rich tapestry of different global styles.

Wyndham City's Creative City portfolio holder, Cr Marcel Mahfoud, said: "The Tapestry of Culture program is designed to showcase the beauty and significance of fashion across different cultures."

"Each workshop will focus on learning and appreciating a different cultural artisanship. These workshops range from traditional clothing techniques, jewellery making, artist in conversation to the exploration of fashion traditions from around the world. Participants will have the opportunity to delve into the unique styles and narratives woven into every garment."

"We are inviting artists from many backgrounds, to contribute their perspective, share culture and cultural practices, as we celebrate the creativity from a fashion first cultural exchange."

"At the heart of our program is a commitment to cultural sensitivity and respectful representation."

The first Tapestry of Culture Workshop was run on the 11th of May, with Tamara Leacock of Remuse Design and explored the explored the art of plant-based dyeing.

The participants enjoyed the hands-on workshop and expressed wanting to attend future workshops.

The workshops run on the second Saturday of the month until October.
