Expressions of Interest open for new Pilbara Community Resource Centre

  • Expressions of Interest called for new Pilbara community asset
  • Community Resource Centre to connect region to technology, business and Government services
  • A call for Expressions of Interest has been issued to Pilbara communities to establish a new Community Resource Centre in the region.

Community Resource Centres are part of the fabric of regional Western Australia, providing a range of business, information and education services, as well as a vital link to services delivered by State Government departments and not for profit organisations.

There are currently 103 Community Resource Centres throughout WA, stretching from Kalumburu in the Kimberley through to Denmark in the south and the remote Irrunytju community near the junction of the WA, South Australia and the Northern Territory borders.

Three centres are located in the Pilbara, connecting the communities of Marble Bar, Nullagine and Tom Price with services and technologies that would not otherwise be available due to their remote location.

As stated by Regional Development Minister Alannah MacTiernan:

"The State Government's Community Resource Centres provide a hub for a range of services and opportunities that would otherwise not be available to small, often remote regional communities.

"This important resource enables individuals and businesses to access the digital technologies and support that are essential to engage in today's increasingly digitised and global operating environment.

"With only three CRCs operating in the Pilbara, we see a real opportunity to open a new centre to support the region's communities and encourage local organisations to put themselves forward for WA's newest CRC."

As stated by Pilbara MLA Kevin Michel:

"The CRCs in Marble Bar, Nullagine and Tom Price do a fantastic job in providing valuable services to residents.

"I am looking forward to a new CRC opening in the Pilbara to support the needs of the community."
