Expressions Of Interest Sought For Impoundment Services

From cars and buses to boats and even shipping containers, Council impounds around 320 items each year.

Usually removed from roadsides, they can also be taken from places such as parks, beaches, and bushland.

It is expected that this figure will rise to about 400 items in coming years.

As Council looks at improving efficiencies in its operations, it now going to test the market and determine if there are any private contractors or organisations interested in taking over this important service.

Council is seeking Expressions of Interest (EOI) submissions from suitably qualified organisations to provide services for the collection, towing, storage, and disposal of impounded items.

The services Council is considering and seeking to understand through this EOI include:

  • Towing and transport of impounded items from Local Government controlled areas;
  • Secure storage for a minimum period of one month as required by Council's Local Laws;
  • Item inspections, as required;
  • Owner notifications and release management, including payment processing; and
  • Disposal options, including recycling, auction, or donation of unclaimed items.
