Colac Otway Shire Council is advising residents of an extra green waste collection service to help with the clean-up following recent weather events, and to assist with property preparation for this summer's bushfire season.
Council's General Manager Infrastructure and Operations Heath Chasemore said that Council is pleased to offer this extra service at this time of year.
"Additional garden growth following recent rains means it's more important than ever to keep on top of the garden maintenance" Mr Chasemore said.
"Council is once again offering additional green waste services across October and November to assist residents in tidying up their property.
"For residents with kerbside collections, weekly green bin pick-ups will occur for approximately six weeks, starting on Monday 17 October for Week Two collection areas and Monday 24 October for Week One collection areas.
"Council is also providing free green waste drop-off at Alvie and Apollo Bay Transfer Stations throughout all of November."
"Wye River and Kennett River communities will see green waste skips once again placed in town from Friday 28th Oct to Friday 25th Nov 2022 to assist with their garden clean-up."
Mr Chasemore said Colac Otway Shire Council will conduct inspections across the shire to ensure properties are kept safe during the fire danger period.
"Council works in partnership with the community in relation to the important issue of keeping properties and the shire safe. This involves responding to notifications from community members about properties they are concerned pose a fire risk."
