Police are conducting high-visibility anti-looting patrols across flood affected communities in North Queensland, including Townsville and surrounding areas.
Extra police were deployed to flood zones in recent days and are conducting 24-hour patrols aimed at deterring anti-social and criminal behaviour to protect the property of flood victims.
Police are investigating reports of property damage and looting from evacuated homes over the past few days.
Since February 2, police have received three reports of looting in Ingham, Railway Estate, and Rosslea, after residents evacuated from their homes.
Investigations are continuing, anyone whose home has been targeted by opportunistic thieves is being urged to report it via Policelink.
Townsville Superintendent Chris Lawson said high-visibility patrols will continue around the clock to protect North Queenslanders' homes.
"The Queensland Police Service has zero tolerance for stealing, especially during a disaster," Superintendent Lawson said.
"I am disgusted by these reports of people in our community taking advantage of this weather event and the devastation it has caused across our region.
"As we move into the recovery phase, police will continue to target offenders and hold them responsible for their actions."
