The easiest way to travel to New Year's Eve celebrations will be on public transport with the Crisafulli Government adding extra services to move hundreds of thousands of revellers around South East Queensland (SEQ).
With 50 cent fares available prior to free travel commencing from 8pm, public transport is also an affordable travel choice to help Queenslanders celebrate.
Free public transport will be available until 5.30am on New Year's Day to help customers get home safely.
Additional train and bus services will be available for people travelling to and from the city, South Bank and South Brisbane stations.
Trains will run every 20 minutes or better on most lines after the 7.45pm fireworks and again after midnight.
Minister for Transport and Main Roads Brent Mickelberg said more services had been added so more Queenslanders could ring in the New Year safely.
"We want everyone to have a fantastic New Year's Eve and part of making the most of the occasion is planning travel to and from the destination," Mr Mickelberg said.
"Additional trains, trams, ferries and buses have been planned to make travel hassle free, so leave the car keys at home and choose public transport.
"This year public transport will be an even more affordable travel option, with 50 cent fares for all services prior to free New Year's Eve travel options commencing from 8pm.
"There will be lots of people moving around and catching public transport on New Year's Eve so we simply ask everyone to have patience as we try to clear the crowds as quickly and safely as possible."
Additional outbound Brisbane City Council bus services will run on a number of routes from South Bank, South Brisbane and the city from 7.45pm – 9.50pm.
Similarly, additional inbound services will support transport to the midnight fireworks in South Bank from 9:15pm, with last service departing regions at approximately 11pm.
Additional outbound services will also be provided following the midnight fireworks, with routes from South Bank, South Brisbane and the city and the last service departing at 1:30am.
Celebrations on the Gold Coast and Sunshine Coast will also be supported with additional bus services while G:link tram services will run as normal, with additional services throughout the night. Revellers are encouraged to plan their travel to and from New Year's Eve events in advance by visiting the Translink website , using the Translink app, or calling 13 12 30.
Mr Mickelberg also took the opportunity at today's press conference to reiterate the important safety on the road message with Queensland's fatal road toll reaching its highest level since 2009 with 301 lives lost this year.
"We have had a devasting year on the state's roads," Mr Mickelberg said. "Road safety is everyone's responsibility. It is vital all Queenslanders ring in new year responsibly, and those planning to have a drink, plan not to drive.
"Every life lost, and every person injured on our roads, is one too many.
"If you are driving, please take extra care when behind the wheel, particularly over the busy holiday period when there will be increased traffic.
"There is no excuse to speed, lose focus, not wear a seat belt properly or drive when you're affected by drugs or alcohol – it's just not worth the risk."
