Two field-ready biosecurity trailers are ready to be deployed by Biosecurity Tasmania when responding to emergencies.
Minister for Primary Industries and Water, Jane Howlett, said the trailers are part of Biosecurity Tasmania's ongoing emergency preparedness for pests and diseases for the Department of Natural Resources and Environment Tasmania (NRE Tas).
"The Tasmanian Government is committed to ensuring the state's environment and primary industries are protected from pests and diseases, which includes being equipped with advanced technology," Minister Howlett said.
"These trailers are a first for Biosecurity Tasmania and can be deployed to remote areas in Tasmania and local control centres during an emergency response, and will act as a mobile operations station.
"This allows for more effective delivery of response activities such as surveillance and field operations, sample collection, decontamination, and public information.
"We are delivering the resources required to ensure a strong, functional biosecurity system, as part of our 2030 Strong Plan for Tasmania's Future."
The trailers consist of two large lockable side-storage compartments which can carry operational equipment and PPE, powerful solar panels and batteries, a fridge for sample collection, and a 90L water tank for decontamination activities.
In the event of an outbreak or emergency response in Tasmania, the trailers will be ready to be deployed across the state from Mt Pleasant.
