Today's Extraordinary Meeting of Clarence Valley Council was requested by Councillor Cairns and Councillor Clancy, however, the motion they wished to be considered at the meeting was deemed unlawful by the NSW Office of Local Government (OLG).
In my capacity as Mayor, I am bound to follow the advice of this local government authority and therefore, the motion was ruled as being out of order.
All councillors were made aware of the advice from the OLG and were also aware of my intention to follow that advice and to rule the Cairns / Clancy motion out of order.
Both Councillor Cairns and Councillor Clancy had the opportunity to withdraw their request for this meeting but chose to proceed, in full knowledge of the advice from the OLG and in full knowledge of my intention to rule their motion out of order.
