Extreme Speeder Arrested At Elizabeth Downs

An Elizabeth Downs man was arrested last night after being detected driving at extreme speeds.

The man's vehicle was allegedly detected by safety cameras travelling at 196 km/h and 203 km/h in 80 km/h zones on 10 and 13 August on Main North Road.

Traffic officers, with the assistance of Police Dog Jax, were tasked to the man's Elizabeth Downs address about 8.30pm last night, Sunday 18 August.

The man was found hiding inside a cupboard and arrested.

The 21-year-old Elizabeth Downs man was charged with two counts of extreme speed and two counts of driving while suspended.

He was bailed to appear in the Elizabeth Magistrates Court on 30 September.

Investigations are continuing to locate and impound the man's Holden Commodore sedan.

Officer in Charge of Road Policing Section, Inspector Mark Atkinson said, "This type of behaviour on our roads is reprehensible. Speeding is a leading cause of fatal and serious injury crashes, and this driver has placed other road users at significant risk."
