Fail-to-stop charge after crash near Taree, NSW

A man will face court next month after an alleged fail-to-stop crash near Taree, NSW Police say.

About 8.45am today, a 72-year-old man was riding his bicycle in the breakdown lane on the Pacific Highway, Coopernook, north of Taree, when he was allegedly hit by a Holden Commodore.

The driver of the Holden allegedly failed to stop and assist.

The cyclist was treated at the scene by NSW Ambulance paramedics before being taken to Manning Base Hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

A short time later, Traffic and Highway Patrol officers stopped a car on the Pacific Highway, Nabiac, and arrested the 18-year-old male driver.

He was taken to Taree Police Station where he was charged with cause bodily harm by misconduct in charge of motor vehicle, and fail to stop and assist after impact cause injury.

The teen was granted conditional bail to appear at Taree Local Court on Tuesday 12 September 2017.
