Failure To Track Waste Leads To Fine

EPA Victoria is continuing its fight against the improper or lack of trackingof reportable priority waste (RPW) materials including construction and demolition waste.

In the latest action, an individual has been fined $1,976 after receiving RPW at their Hoppers Crossing site but failing to properly record the transaction.

The individual is required to pay the fine following a January inspection by EPA officers of the Richards Rd property where the individual's business, SJ1, operates.

"One of EPA's tools in uncovering illegal waste activity is Waste Tracker, which electronically tracks waste when it is created, transported and deposited," said EPA West Metropolitan Regional Manager Jeremy Settle.

"If there's a break in the Waste Tracker chain, we can see there is an issue and take action. Failing to keep proper records is therefore an offence and we're sending a clear message to businesses that it will cost them."
