Gold Coast families who are eligible for social housing have started moving into a new social housing complex in Nerang.

The site was formerly just two houses, which has been redeveloped into 10 units.

Split over two levels, the social housing complex includes nine two-bedroom apartments and one one-bedroom unit.

The complex also contains four ground-floor units designed specifically for older residents and people with a disability, with wider hallways and doorways, level showers and wall ovens featured across the Gold Level or Platinum Level units.

The $3.9 million project also supported more than 12 full-time equivalent jobs during construction. Quotes attributable to Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk:

"It's a pleasure to welcome the first few tenants into this recently completed social housing build here on the Gold Coast.

"This property is a great example of our government taking a fresh look at how we can deliver more housing for Queenslanders in need.

"What was previously just two homes on this block of land has now become 10.

"Right around the state we have projects just like this in the pipeline, as part of our $5 billion commitment to help deliver 13,500 homes.

"We know Queenslanders are doing it tough, which is why we are pulling every lever available to tackle national housing pressures.

"We'll continue to work hand in hand with the Federal Government and local councils to deliver developments just like this."

Quotes attributable to Housing Minister and Member for Gaven Meaghan Scanlon:

"Every Queenslander deserves a roof over their head – it's why we've built on average more than 10 homes per week since 2015.

"This new complex will provide help some of the most vulnerable in our community – including those with a disability and seniors who require a greater level of accessibility.

"An important factor in social housing is accessibility to services, and these units are located close to local parks, PCYC, shops, services and public transport.

"This project has maximised the land available to deliver more homes for Gold Coasters doing it tough.

"The Palaszczuk Government is pushing ahead with social and affordable housing projects just like this one right across the state.

"Shovels are in the ground right now building hundreds of homes through our record $5 billion for social and affordable housing – the largest concentrated investment in social housing in Queensland's history."
