- Max Beckerling appointed as an Acting Magistrate of the Family Court of WA
- Experienced barrister has practised principally in family law matters
Attorney General John Quigley is pleased to announce the appointment of Max Beckerling as an Acting Magistrate of the Family Court of Western Australia.
For the past 11 years, Mr Beckerling has served as a barrister at the Independent Bar.
He specialises in family law which has seen him practise in childsupport, care and protection and family provision matters, and restraining orders.
His areas of expertise also include parenting and property-related family law disputes, the Hague Convention on child abduction, and trusts and estates.
Mr Beckerling has appeared as counsel in about 50 trials in the Family Court and Magistrates Court.
Admitted to practice in 2003, he worked as a lawyer for a decade at a private family law firm, becoming a director in 2009.
Mr Beckerling is a member of the Australian Bar Association's family law committee.
He will commence as an Acting Magistrate on 2 September 2024 for a one-year appointment.
Concurrently, a recruitment process for a permanent Magistrate will be undertaken during this time.
As stated by Attorney General John Quigley:

"He has practised primarily in the family law space including complex property and child-related disputes and appeals.
"Mr Beckerling's extensive experience as a family law barrister will help the court continue to manage a significant caseload."
