Farmers areurged to see what small steps they could take to boost their on-farm safety asNSW Farmers kicks off a series of workshops during National Farm Safety Week.
NSW FarmersWorkplace Relations spokesman Chris Stillard said that many businesses, farmingcould be a dangerous occupation if due care was not exercised - so it wasessential farmers remained proactive on workplace health and safety.
"National FarmSafety Week is the perfect time to kick start those conversations around how wecan all contribute to improving our physical and mental health, safety andwellbeing on-farm," Mr Stillard said.
"Farming is arewarding but potentially dangerous occupation, and the more we talk about therisks and dangers, the better.
"Small, simple-to-implement steps such asstoring chemicals correctly or wearing helmets when it's necessary all go along way to ensuring everyone can stay safe and healthy on-farm."
As an industry,Mr Stillard said, farmers were keen to put the spotlight on improving safetyand he encouraged everyone to attend one of the free farm safety workshopshosted across regional NSW.
Delivered throughthe Farm Safety Advisory Program with the support of SafeWork NSW, the NSWFarmers workshops will provide attendees with practicaltips and updates to ensure they can keep their farm businesses safe andcompliant with the latest workplace health and safety requirements
"If you canget yourself to Tamworth, Dubbo, Forbes,Griffith or Wagga Wagga, it's well worth coming along to one of our workshopsto see what practical tools and resources are on offer to support farm safety,"Mr Stillard said.
"Workplace health andsafety requirements are constantly evolving, and there are also always otheropportunities to improve farm safety in areas that you may not have revisitedrecently.
"Farming never stops butas we all know, taking the time to keep your family, friends and employees safeon-farm is always worth it."
