Faruqi Backs UA Chair's Criticism of Student Caps

Australian Greens

Senator Mehreen Faruqi, Deputy Leader of the Australian Greens and spokesperson for Higher Education, attended today's National Press Club address by the Universities Australia chair, David Lloyd, and welcomes the critical comments of Labor's international student caps.

As stated by Senator Mehreen Faruqi:

"Today's address by the Universities Australia chair confirms what the Greens have been screaming since day one: Labor's hot mess of a policy is nothing more than a political game to win the racist border wars before the election.

"Shamefully, both Albanese and Dutton are singing from the same migration songbook. This time international students are the targets and higher education the collateral damage in their race to the bottom.

"Labor is displaying absolute disregard and contempt for the international education sector and students with their chaotic slash and burn plan which will decimate the sector.

"The prime minister knows how to backflip - it's time to backflip on these reckless and illogical caps, go back to the drawing board and come back with an education bill not a migration policy."
