Fatal Car Fire At Tenterfield

A man has died following a vehicle fire in the state's north west.

About 4.45am (Friday 1 November 2024), emergency services were called to Bruxner Highway, about 3km east of Snake Creek Road, Sandy Flat, near Tenterfield, following reports of a vehicle fire.

NSW Rural Fire Service crews arrived at the scene to find the vehicle destroyed by fire.

Officers attached to New England Police District attended and found a man deceased close by the vehicle.

The man is yet to be formally identified but is believed to be aged in his 70s.

A crime scene was established and an investigation has commenced into the circumstance surrounding the incident.

As investigations continue, police urge anyone who may have witnessed the car fire – or has any available dashcam or mobile phone footage - to contact New England Police District or Crime Stoppers 1800 333 000.

A report will be prepared for the information of the Coroner.
