Police are seeking information regarding a fatal helicopter crash yesterday, Sunday 2 October 2022, in the vicinity of the Cowcowing Lakes in Booralaming, south-west of Koorda.
About 3:45pm the Australian Maritime Safety Authority's Joint Rescue Coordination Centre (JRCC) advised WA Police Force they were responding to information regarding an overdue aircraft and potential air crash incident.
The Robinson 22 helicopter had departed Koorda earlier in the day along with ten other aircraft (planes) that were taking part in a club event over the weekend. The helicopter failed to arrive at Jandakot Airport.
The initial response to the incident was coordinated by the JRCC, who deployed their Perth-based AMSA Challenger Jet to search for the overdue helicopter. The helicopter was located crashed in the vicinity of the Cowcowing Lakes in Booralaming, south-west of Koorda.
Police attended the scene and confirmed there were no survivors. At the time of the crash there were two men on board the helicopter – believed to be a man aged in his 70s and a man aged in his 50s.
The Australian Transport Safety Bureau has been notified and will conduct a transport safety investigation into the incident.
WA Police Force will prepare a report for the Coroner.
