Fatal Marine Incident At Cairns

The Forensic Crash Unit is investigating a fatal marine incident in Cairns today, January 3.

Initial information indicates around 10:30am a 56-year-old man and a 60 year-old woman, both from Brinsmead, were travelling on a jet ski on the Barron River, when they collided with mangroves north of the Stratford Boat Ramp.

Both riders on the jet ski were ejected into the water.

The man was declared deceased at the scene while the woman was taken to Cairns Hospital in a stable condition.

Police will prepare a report for the Coroner.

Investigations are continuing.
