Police are seeking witnesses to a crash on Davey Street in Hobart this morning, which sadly resulted in the death of a 61-year-old man, Tasmania Police say.
Around 9:30am, a 61-year-old Mangalore man was stepping off the footpath on Davey Street when he was struck by a west-bound Holden sedan.
The crash occurred in the northern most west-bound lane, approximately 50 meters east of Molle Street, opposite Anglesea barracks.
The male pedestrian was declared deceased a short time later at the Royal Hobart Hospital.
The Holden was being driven by a 37-year-old Swansea woman. She was not physically injured during the crash and will assist police with their investigation.
Davey Street was initially closed for a short time before two lanes were reopened whilst Crash Investigation and Forensic personnel investigated the crash. All lanes on Davey Street were re-opened at 1pm.
At the time of the crash the road was dry and visibility was clear. Excessive vehicle speed or the use of alcohol or drugs are not suspected as a contributing factor in the crash, however investigations into the circumstances surrounding the crash are continuing and a report will now be prepared for the coroner.
Crash Investigators would like to speak to anyone who may have seen the Holden sedan or the pedestrian around the time of the crash. Information can be provided by calling 131 444 or Crime Stoppers anonymously.
