Sadly a 43-year-old man from Ranelagh has died in a single vehicle crash on Huon Road at Longley. At approximately 12.30am on Sunday the 10th day of July 2022 emergency services were notified of a serious single vehicle crash on Huon Road in the vicinity of the Longley Hotel.
Police members from Huonville and Kingston were dispatched to the scene along with TFS and SES volunteers. The male driver was located in the vehicle and declared deceased at the scene a short time later. A 43-year-old female also of Ranelagh was in the vehicle at the time of the collision and received serious injuries. She was cut free from the vehicle by emergency services rescue personnel. Crash Investigation and Forensic Services attended and processed the scene.
The vehicle involved in the crash is a red Nissan Micra.
Senior Constable Adam Hall of Crash Investigation Services said 'Initial investigations indicate the driver was travelling south on Huon Road when he failed to safely negotiate a right-hand curve in the road and collided with a concrete bridge. Vehicle speed and the use of alcohol is believed to be contributing factors to the cause of the crash, both occupants were wearing seatbelts.
At the time the road was dry, weather was clear, and traffic was light. The cause of the crash continues to be investigated and a report will be prepared for the coroner.
