The Forensic Crash Unit is investigating a two vehicle fatal traffic crash at The Gemfields, near Emerald yesterday afternoon, Queensland Police say.
Initial investigations indicate around 1.30pm, a 4wd utility travelling south on Anakie – Sapphire Road has collided with a sedan that was travelling west along the Capricorn Highway.
The driver of the sedan, a 39-year-old man from Blackall received critical injuries and was transported to Emerald hospital where he was later pronounced deceased.
A 24-year-old female passenger from the sedan received non-life threatening injuries and was flown to a Brisbane hospital for treatment.
The 24-year-old male driver, a 24-year-old female passenger and a 30-year-old male passenger of the utility all received non-life threatening injuries and were transported to Emerald Hospital for treatment.
Investigations into the cause of the crash are continuing.
