A single vehicle crash south of Augathella this morning claimed the life of a 21-year-old woman, Queensland Police say.
Preliminary information suggests the vehicle was travelling along the Mitchell Highway, approximately 30kms south of Augathella, around 6.30am when the driver swerved to avoid an animal, leaving the roadway and hitting a tree.
The passenger, a 21-year-old Boronia Heights woman died at the scene. The driver, a 22-year-old Charleville woman, was transported to Charleville Hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
Traffic diversions remain in place for most vehicles whilst the Forensic Crash Unit continue their investigations. The diversions are not suitable for heavy vehicles.
