The Forensic Crash Unit is investigating following a fatal two-vehicle traffic crash on the Bruce Highway at Myrtlevale Sunday evening.
Emergency services were called just after 5pm to reports a utility and a car had crashed.
Upon arrival, the car was located fully engulfed, and the driver was declared deceased a short time later.
The driver of the utility, a man in his 60s, was airlifted to Mackay Base Hospital in a critical condition.
Forensic examinations are underway to formally identify the driver of the car.
Witnesses, or anyone with relevant vision, are urged to contact police.
Investigations are continuing.
