A driver has died after a single vehicle crash in the state's north.
About 5.50pm today (Friday 5 January 2024), emergency services responded to reports a vehicle had crashed into a tree along Lakes Road, Woolgoolga, approximately 25km north of Coffs Harbour.
NSW Ambulance paramedics treated the two male occupants, however, the driver – who is yet to be formally identified but is believed to be aged in his 20's – died at the scene.
The passenger – aged 23 – has been airlifted to John Hunter Hospital in a critical condition.
Officers from Coffs Clarence Police District established a crime scene that is currently being examined by specialist police.
As inquiries continue road closures are currently in place and motorists are urged to avoid the area. The area is expected to remain a crime scene for a considerable amount of time.
