Rockhampton Region residents will help decide the future of our community when a poll is held early next year on whether the Northern Suburbs join our Region.
Mayor Tony Williams today sent a message to all ratepayers from Parkhurst to Port Alma, Gogango to Glenroy and everyone in between – you have skin in this game and your vote is important for the future of our region.
"We've received word from the Change Commission this week that residents in Livingstone and the Rockhampton Region will be polled in early 2022 on whether Rockyview, Glenlee and Glendale should come back to the Rockhampton Region," Mayor Williams said.
"Our Council is investing in our community for a bigger and better Rockhampton Region and we very much see the Northern Suburbs as a part of our future growth.
"We have seen two published polls which show these suburbs want to return to the Rockhampton Region. These are our neighbours, our work colleagues and our friends. We see them as valued Rockhampton Region residents. They work and live their lives in our region and they are part of our community.
"When it comes to the poll in 2022, it is important that everyone in the Rockhampton Region lets the Queensland Government know that these suburbs should be part of our community officially.
"The next step is the Queensland Treasury Corporation will review the books of both Livingstone and Rockhampton Councils and provide a report to the Local Government Minister on their financial sustainability," Mayor Williams said.
