One year has passed since the Bushfire Royal Commission released its final report, but bushfire survivors across the country are still waiting on answers from the Federal Government and summer is just around the corner.
The Royal Commission into Natural Disaster Arrangements report, responding to the horrific 2019/20 fire season, outlined 80 recommendations, with more than half requiring action from the Federal Government.
Lives were changed forever in the devastating 2019/20 fires, with many still rebuilding after losing their livelihoods.
Bushfire Survivors for Climate Action president Jo Dodds said the Federal Government must take the Royal Commission report seriously and act now.
"We can't wait for more bushfires like the 2019/20 fires to be on our doorstep before we act," Ms Dodds said.
"Many bushfire survivors are currently going through the difficult and long process of rebuilding their homes all while living in fear of their new homes burning down in even hotter and more rapid fires with summer just around the corner."
Ms Dodds will be travelling to the COP26 in Glasgow tomorrow to share the devastating impacts the fires had on Australians, representing more than 100 members of the Bushfire Survivors network.
"The Federal Government needs to implement all the recommendations without further delay. It must also tackle the causes of the bushfires and accelerating climate change by committing to far stronger emissions cuts this decade and immediately moving beyond coal and gas," Ms Dodds said.
"Australia has an abundance of sun and wind that it can take advantage of and our members are looking at how to incorporate these cheap and clean renewables into their rebuilds."
