Federal Labor Overlooks Tasmanian Jobs, Biosecurity

Tasmanian Government

Tasmania's biosecurity and salmon jobs are under renewed threat from the Albanese Labor Government.

With Tanya Plibersek's axe still hanging over the head of West Coast salmon jobs, today Minister for Agriculture, Fisheries and Forestry Julie Collins MP has stood mutely by with inferior Chilean salmon expected to arrive in Australia today.

Federal Labor's decision to allow the importation of this product demonstrates an alarming disregard for the disease risks associated with foreign fish and potential impact on local jobs.

This should have every local member worth their salt up in arms.

It beggars belief that the relevant Federal Minister, who also happens to be local member for Franklin, Julie Collins, has allowed this to happen on her watch.

Why would jobs in Chile be more important to her than jobs in Margate?

With the Tasmanian Greens also out today attacking fish farming, one thing is for certain.

Labor and the Greens are united in their disdain for salmon workers.

We call upon Minister Collins to step up to the plate and do the right thing by workers in Franklin and across Tasmania.
