FedNor Injects $50K+ into Northern Ontario Mining Growth

Federal Economic Development Agency for Northern Ontario - FedNor

Federal funding will promote skills development and help businesses in Northern Ontario reach new markets

Today, Viviane Lapointe, Member of Parliament for Sudbury, announced a non-repayable FedNor contribution of $56,500 to hire an intern focused on research to help MineConnect connect its members with information, resources and leads to projects around the world. The announcement was made on behalf of the Honourable Patty Hajdu, Minister of Indigenous Services and Minister responsible for FedNor.

As the mining supply and services sector adapts and evolves to support opportunities presented by critical minerals and its associated supply chains, such as battery electric vehicles, MineConnect is dedicated to supporting business growth in the industry. To assist with this, the intern will be responsible for research to further develop a new web-based resource for member organizations, which hosts information on domestic and international mining projects, as well as trade, development and export opportunities. The intern will also network with the business community in Northern Ontario, and gain valuable skills in the areas of economic, trade, and export development, in addition to not-for-profit governance processes.

From the manufacturing and maintenance of autonomous clean technology equipment in mines, to the batteries for electric vehicles, the mining supply and services sector is an important piece of Northern Ontario's economy. That is why FedNor is committed to supporting MineConnect in this next step as it looks to grow and expand its operations and supports for businesses across the region.
