Prior to the COVID-19 pandemic, Canada's tourism sector was generating $102 billion in annual economic activity, 1.8 million jobs and accounted for over two percent of GDP, making it an essential contributor to the Canadian economy. That is why the Government of Canada is stepping up efforts to ensure tourism businesses and organizations, as well as municipalities and Indigenous communities dependent on the sector, are supported and ready to welcome back visitors.
The Honourable Patty Hajdu, Minister of Indigenous Services and Minister responsible for FedNor, announced FedNor investments totalling $4,571,644 for 27 tourism projects across Northern Ontario, creating and maintaining over 140 jobs. The investments are provided through FedNor's Tourism Relief Fund (TRF), as well as through the Northern Ontario Development Program (NODP) and the Economic Development Initiative (EDI) (identified below)
