Police and event organisers are urging all festival goers to celebrate in a safe and responsible manner this weekend, ahead of the Listen Out music festival in Sydney.
Police attached to Eastern Beaches Police Area Command will be conducting a high-visibility operation at Centennial Park this Sunday (6 October 2024), with local officers assisted by the Licensing Police, the NSW Police Dog Unit, and other specialist commands.
Eastern Beaches Police Area Commander, Detective Superintendent Paul Simpkins, said the safety of festival goers is our number one priority.
"We are expecting around 17,000 people on Sunday, so please be aware of your surroundings and keep an eye out on your friends," Det Supt Simpkins said.
"Our officers will be targeting anti-social behaviour and alcohol fuelled violence – this is no place for this sort of behaviour. Attendees who choose to do the wrong thing not only risk their own safety, but also the safety of others around them.
"Prohibited drugs are illegal and potentially life-threatening, especially when combined with alcohol, so I urge everyone to behave responsibly. If you or one of your mates feels unwell, please seek professional medical attention at one of the medical tents on-site.
"Our goal is for everyone to enjoy the festival safely. We will not tolerate anyone who intends to jeopardise that safety or thinks they are above the law."
Det Supt Simpkins also reminded festival goers about keeping hydrated.
"Please ensure you and your fellow festival goers are drinking plenty of water, wear sunscreen and seek shade during the day," he said.
"Public transport will be busy and congested – so patience is encouraged.
"This year will be the first year that teens aged over 16 will be allowed at the event but remember: if you're under 18 you can only attend with a responsible adult and remain in the company of a responsible adult while in the event site," Det Supt Simpkins said.
The best and most efficient way to get to and from the venue is via light rail. Ticketholders are encouraged to leave the car at home and catch public transport.
The L2 Randwick and L3 Kingsford light rail services run between Circular Quay and Randwick and Circular Quay and Kingsford. Services operate every five to 10 minutes on Saturdays from 7am to 1am the following morning. The closest station to the event site is Moore Park Light Rail Station.
