Police are urging all festival goers to celebrate in a safe and responsible manner this weekend, ahead of the Yours and Owls Music Festival in Wollongong.
Police attached to Wollongong Police District will be conducting a high-visibility operation on Flagstaff Hill and the South Beach foreshore tomorrow (Saturday 1 March 2025) and Sunday (2 March 2025), with local officers assisted by the Licensing Police, the NSW Police Dog Unit drug detection dogs, and other specialist commands.
Wollongong Police District Detective Acting Superintendent Glen Broadhead said the safety of festival goers is the top priority.
"We are expecting in excess of 10,000 people to attend the event, so we are urging festival goers to look out for each other. Police will be targeting anti-social behaviour and alcohol fuelled violence and any behaviour that puts yourself or others at risk will not be tolerated," Detective Acting Superintendent Broadhead said.
"Prohibited drugs are illegal and potentially life-threatening, especially when combined with alcohol. We urge anyone who feels unwell or needs medical assistance to attend one of the medical tents on-site."
Festival goers are urged to plan their trip. Trains run regularly to North Wollongong and Wollongong on the South Coast line, both are within walking distance or the free Gong Shuttle bus will be running throughout the day.
