The winners of City of Ryde's 2024 Diwali Festival of Lights competition have been announced after some spectacular entries were received from households across the Ryde LGA.
The winners of the Best Home Lighting category are:
House Exterior: $1,000 Gift Card
Manish Shrestha, West Ryde
Apartment: $750 Gift Card
Rashmi Dhongade, Meadowbank (pictured, above)
And the winners of the Rangoli Artwork category are:
1st Place: $500 Gift Card
Krupa Kotecha, West Ryde
2nd Place: $250 Gift Card
Rashmi Dhongade, Meadowbank
Ryde residents from all backgrounds were encouraged to light up and decorate their homes and apartments to celebrate the 2024 Festival of Lights, which is the biggest and most important holiday on the Indian calendar.
This unique competition also promotes sustainability within the City of Ryde, with Council encouraging participants to use energy-efficient LED or solar LED lights.
City of Ryde Mayor Trenton Brown said the Diwali Festival of Lights competition was another wonderful representation of Ryde's diverse and harmonious community.
"I'd like to congratulate all of this year's winners," he said. "I was extremely impressed by the creativity and hard work that went into all of our entries.
"This is a fantastic initiative that was first brought to Council by Clr Shweta Deshpande and it has really sparked the collective imagination of our community."
