Hot on the heels of the announced return of the Summer of Free Public Transport, the Cook Labor Government has today announced travel on all Transwa regional services will be half price over the summer period.
The discounted travel will run on the same dates as the Free Summer of Public Transport initiative - 14 December to 5 February.
Transwa bus and train services connect to 240 destinations across regional Western Australia including Bunbury, Kalbarri, Kalgoorlie, Albany and Esperance.
The initiative will provide families with cost-of-living relief, while encouraging people to travel to and from the State's many regional stops and iconic tourism destinations.
Full fare passengers will be able to travel for less than:
- $20 for a round trip on a road coach between East Perth and Toodyay;
- $80 for a round trip on a road coach between East Perth and Albany; and
- About $100 for a round trip onboard the Prospector train between East Perth and Kalgoorlie.
Transwa passengers will also receive free travel across the Transperth network on the day of their regional journey. Simply present your Transwa ticket when boarding a Transperth bus, train or ferry.
Passengers can book tickets through www.transwa.wa.gov.au .
As stated by Premier Roger Cook:
"Delivering cost-of-living relief for WA families is our top priority.
"Transwa plays a vital role in getting families around in the regions, and this summer, we're halving the price.
"From the city to the regions and right across WA, my WA Labor Government is focused on helping families and always doing what's right for WA."
As stated by Transport Minister Rita Saffioti:
"We want to make public transport more accessible and affordable for all, and this initiative is a great way of supporting that.
"Transwa connects to 240 destinations across regional WA, and this will make getting to those locations more affordable of the summer months.
"By providing half price fares, we're not only helping families with cost of living but also supporting small businesses and tourism operators by encouraging more visitation to these regional destinations."
