Earlier this month Resources Victoria contributed to a field trip that provided geoscientists with an opportunity to get close and personal with drill core from three of Victoria's most exciting mineral deposits.
Organised as part of the Discoveries in the Tasmanides conference, the trip allowed attendees to examine drill core from mines at Fosterville and Costerfield, as well as the Sunday Creek gold-antimony project, which is in its initial exploration phase.
Senior Geologist Ross Caley of the Geological Survey of Victoria co-led the trip from Melbourne to Albury on route to the conference.
Key geological features were highlighted along the way, including the crustal-scale Heathcote Fault, and the Moormbool Fault, which is one feature of the Costerfield antimony-gold deposit, Australia's only antimony mine.
The 50-plus attendees were also provided with new technical data from several gold and critical minerals operations throughout the state.
