The City of Greater Bendigo is inviting expressions of interest from street artists for a project to create a new vibrant mural in Chancery Lane.
To celebrate Bendigo Art Gallery's international exhibition Frida Kahlo: In her Own Image next March, the City is planning an exciting 'Fiesta Bendigo' destination campaign to complement the exclusive blockbuster.
The campaign will include a new and vibrant mural in Chancery Lane in Bendigo and artists may propose an original artwork that best demonstrates their culture and/or creative practice, talent and skills.
Coordinator Creative City Maree Tonkin encouraged street artists to submit an expression of interest.
"This new project is another example of the City's continued commitment to provide opportunities for exciting artworks in public spaces," Ms Tonkin said.
"The City is seeking a mural that incorporates patterns, motifs and bold colours that align with the Fiesta Bendigo theme and is suitable for display in a public realm.
"Chancery Lane hosts an eclectic mix of food, fashion and art and is one of Bendigo's most endearing laneways. The new mural will be installed at the Hargreaves Street end of Chancery Lane as part of a wider program of city centre activations being planned between March and July next year to celebrate the arrival of Bendigo Art Gallery' exhibition, Frida Kahlo: In her Own Image."
Applicants are strongly encouraged to discuss their project before submitting an expression of interest, especially if this is the first time they are creating a work of this scale and nature. The mural dimensions are 18 metres in length and 2 metres in height.
Submissions are open until Friday December 13 and the selected artist will be notified in late January, 2025.
The commissioned artist will be paid a total fee of $10,000 (inclusive of GST) to cover artist/s payment, all materials, workshop, insurances and costs.
