A fifth man has been charged as part of an ongoing investigation into the alleged commercial supply of cocaine in the state's Monaro Region.
In September last year, Strike Force Sulfur was established by officers from the Monaro Region Enforcement Squad (RES) to investigate drug supply in the Queanbeyan and Canberra areas.
Following investigations, strike force investigators – with assistance from local police attached to Monaro, South Coast and The Hume Police Districts, as well as Southern Region Operations – executed eight search warrants at homes in Queanbeyan, Jerrabomberra and Franklin in the ACT last Tuesday (13 September 2022).
They were also assisted by the Dog Unit, Australian Federal Police (AFP) Canine and officers from ACT Policing.
A number of items were seized during the warrants, including cocaine, steroids, weapons, cash and OMCG paraphernalia.
Four men – aged 25, 27, 33 and 37 – were arrested and charged; they remain before the courts.
Following further inquiries, a 27-year-old man was arrested at Queanbeyan Police Station about 11am yesterday (Monday 19 September 2022).
He was charged with 12 offences, including:
- Supply prohibited drug (five counts),
- Supply prohibited drug – large commercial quantity – serious indictable offence,
- Drive motor vehicle menaces another with intent,
- Stalk/intimidate intend fear physical etc harm (personal),
- Destroy or damage property,
- Knowingly deal with proceeds of crime – serious indictable offence,
- Knowingly derive material benefit from criminal group, and,
- Knowingly direct activities of criminal group
The Jerrabomberra man was refused bail to appear in Queanbeyan Local Court yesterday, where he was formally bail refused to reappear at the same court on Tuesday 8 November 2022.
