DARLING RIVER BLUE GREEN ALGAE - Alternative Water Supply
Filtered Water available at Wentworth and Pooncarie
The Lower Darling River has been under Red Alert for Blue Green Algae since February this year. This Red Alert advises water users not to consume the water without appropriate treatment. The persistence of Blue Green Algae in the Lower Darling River is now at a duration that alternative supplies such as rainwater is running critically low for some properties.
Wentworth Shire Council is willing to assist those impacted by providing a free alternative water supply of Filtered Water direct from its Wentworth and Pooncarie Water Supply Systems.
Those wishing the access this alternative water supply will need to provide and fund their own water holding vessels / tanks or arrange their own cartage contractors. Wentworth Shire Council is not responsible for water quality after it is in storage by others.
Lower Darling River property owners will need to book by calling Wentworth Shire Council on 03 5027 5027 to access the Filtered Water points.
Alternative water supply locations will be available within the hours of 8am to 4pm at the following standpipes:
