Final Countdown: Council Elections On This Saturday

Tweed Shire Council

Tweed residents will head to the polls on Saturday 14 September to elect a new Council.

The NSW Electoral Commission conducts the election on behalf of councils across the State, with voting compulsory in Local Government elections.

Polling stations will open at 8 am on election day and close at 6 pm that night. A total of 28 polling venues will be open on election day:

Pre-polling is also available to eligible voters this election, with 5 pre-polling venues already open across the Tweed from 9 am to 5 pm until Friday 13 September.

Applications for postal voting closed on Monday 9 September. Applications received after this time will not receive a postal vote pack. Completed postal votes must be received by the NSW Electoral Commission by 6 pm on Friday 27 September.

A total of 45 candidates have registered to contest the Tweed Shire Council election, following finalisation of the ballot sheet by the NSW Electoral Commission in early August. The candidates make up 10 grouped tickets, with 7 candidates running on their own as individuals. For details on the candidates, visit the NSW Electoral Commission webpage.

The declaration of the poll is expected to occur between 1 and 3 October 2024, and an Extraordinary Meeting of the new Council will take place on Tuesday 10 October 2024 that will include the election of the Mayor and Deputy Mayor.
