With less than four weeks to go until the state election, Hume City Council is calling on all political candidates to commit to funding five major projects that will tackle congested roads, upgrade social housing and redevelop public transport facilities.
Hume City Council is one of Australia's fastest growing and culturally diverse communities and is home to almost 258,000 residents. By 2041, it is forecast that approximately 395,000 people will call Hume home.
To ensure that Hume is prepared for long-term population growth, the following projects must be funded:
Duplication of Sunbury Road (between Bulla-Diggers Rest Road and Melbourne Airport)
Duplication of Somerton Road (between Roxburgh Park Drive and Mickleham Road)
Duplication of Mickleham Road (between Dellamore Boulevard and Craigieburn Road)
Redevelopment of Broadmeadows Train Station
Redevelopment of Banksia Gardens Housing Estate
Investing in key infrastructure projects in Melbourne's north this State Election and beyond will create invaluable opportunities for residents.
With an additional 70,000 residents calling Hume City home in the next decade, political candidates must act now to ensure that the community is not left behind.
